Boil water order lifted for parts of DuPage

Residents in unincorporated areas near Wheaton, Winfield and Carol Stream no longer need to boil their drinking water, officials from Illinois American Water announced Saturday.

The boil order went into effect Thursday after construction crews broke a water main.

The company said it lifted the order after tests confirmed its water "continues to meet all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Act standards and regulations."

During the boil order, the company did a series of tests to determine if the water met regulatory standards. "Samples were taken from sites in the affected area and tests confirmed that the water meets all state and federal requirements," the statement reads.

The boil order applied only to residents in those areas that do not receive their water from municipalities.
