Fall antiques show returns to St. Charles
Antique collectors are searching for rare items this weekend in St. Charles.
The Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association's 41st annual Fall Fox Valley Antiques Show, which started Saturday, will continue 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road, in St. Charles.
More than 50 antique dealers from 14 states are offering an array of Americana, 18th- and 19th- and early 20th-century furniture, textiles, jewelry, stoneware, folk art and related items for sale.
Victorian period antiques collector Keith E. Letsche of West Chicago has been coming to the event for more than 20 years. He was on the hunt Saturday for interesting lighting fixtures, but a beautiful green-tinted. gothic pickle jar dating from the 1850s to 1870s caught also his eye.
"They're scarce, but they're also very desirable," he said of the type of jar.
"When you're a collector, you have a lot of common pieces," Letsche said, "but you're looking for the more unusual or the rarer pieces.
"And of course, you're also looking for a good price, too," he added with a chuckle.
Indiana residents Sandy and Doug Davies also have been coming to the sale for more than two decades. This year, they purchased a New England stretcher base tavern table dating from around the 1720s.
