2015-16 STEM Speaker Series at CLC

Interested in science and technology? Come to the College of Lake County's STEM Speaker Series, where content experts will provide a fresh perspective on important STEM-related subjects. The series provides an opportunity for teachers and students of all ages to learn more about potential careers in STEM fields. Online pre-registration is recommended.

Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Materials Science - The Chemistry of Everyday Stuff. Enjoy demonstrations highlighting the properties and reactions of metals, polymers and ceramics. These solid materials comprise the "stuff" the world uses in every facet of life, from industrial to personal. Learn practical applications for chemistry and discover careers that deal with materials science and engineering. Location: Grayslake Campus Room C005 (C Wing Auditorium).

Feb. 27: STEM Day for Girls, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join us for a day designed to motivate girls interested in STEM careers to become innovative and creative thinkers. Students will be introduced to a variety of topics through a series of hands-on activities and inspiring presentations. Parents will be provided with details on scholarships, financial aid and career pathways. This free event is for girls in grades 7 through 12. Location: Grayslake Campus Lower Level C Wing.

March 8: Mission Critical-Preventing Antibiotic Resistance, 6:30 p.m. The use and misuse of antimicrobial drugs accelerate the emergence of drug resistant strains. According to the World Health Organization, new resistance mechanisms emerge and spread globally, threatening our ability to treat common infectious diseases. Learn about the causes and effects of antibiotic resistance and what we can do to help. Location: C Wing Auditorium, Room C005.

April 7: NanoNight-Nanotechnology Family Festival, evening hours TBA. Bring your family to the third festival and experience nanoscale science and engineering applications with hands-on activities. Explore the impact of nanoscale science on the technology of today and potential for future innovation. Location: CLC Southlake Campus, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills.

Robotics Festival. Join us for an evening of hands-on activities and exhibits in May (date and location to be announced). Discover robotics projects you can build at home, try out some of our labs and explore exciting career pathways. Local robotics teams will showcase their projects.
