Boys golf: Park paces Vernon Hills' downstate effort

Justin Park fired a 4-over-par 75, as Vernon Hills' boys golf team carded a 324 on Day 1 of the Class 2A state meet at Weibring Golf Club on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal on Friday.

Park, a junior, is tied for seventh place, six shots off the lead, heading into Saturday. Vernon Hills also counted the rounds of sophomore Brian Favia (80), senior Taner Fulton (84) and freshman Sujay Voletti (85).

Morton is in the first place after shooting a 311. Dunlap (317) and Wheaton St. Francis (320) are second and third.

In the Class 3A state meet at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington, Stevenson shot a 324 (plus 36), placing the Patriots in eighth place. Freshman Jackson Bussell carded the Patriots' best round, as he shot a 6-over 78 (tie for 18th). Junior James Dvorak and senior Jake Labow had an 80 and 81, respectively. Stevenson junior Kamaren Sandhu had an 85.

Hinsdale Central sits in first place after a first-round 304.

Libertyville junior Jacob Mueller was 2-over par through 15 holes but played the last three holes in 8 over. His 10-over 82 has him in a tie for 52nd.
