Director of Springfield's Abraham Lincoln museum resigns

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum has resigned following years of disagreements with the head of the state agency that oversees the museum.

Gov. Bruce Rauner said in a statement Friday he had accepted Eileen Mackevich's resignation. He said a national search is underway for her replacement.

The resignation signals a shakeup at the Springfield museum and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Lawmakers last year held a hearing after officials at the museum's foundation said spats between Mackevich and IHPA Director Amy Martin were leading to a drop in donations. One lawmaker compared them to "kids that can't get along."

Mackevich didn't return a phone message seeking comment Friday.

Rauner named museum Chief of Staff Nadine O'Leary to serve as acting director.
