School bus hits Barrington High student; teen is OK

A Barrington Transportation Co. bus driver has been suspended after the bus struck a Barrington High School student who was crossing South Haeger Road around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Barrington Police Assistant Chief Steve Ruben said the driver hit the student as the driver was trying to make a left turn from westbound Main Street onto South Haeger Road.

"The driver tried to stop, but did not and struck the pedestrian from behind," Ruben said, reading from the police report.

Ruben said the male teenager did not need to be hospitalized. He was released to his parents at the scene and attended school on Friday, said Morgan Delack, Barrington Area Unit School District 220 communications director.

Ruben said the bus driver was also ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Becky Sisauri, a manager at Barrington Transportation Co., said the driver is on suspension pending an internal investigation.
