Woman killed while crossing road in Beach Park

A 57-year-old Beach Park woman using a walker was killed Tuesday night when struck by a car while crossing Sheridan Road in Beach Park, authorities said Wednesday.

Denise Pawlawski suffered multiple injuries when a 2009 Chevrolet trailblazer hit her about 9 p.m., an autopsy revealed.

A preliminary investigation determined Pawlawski and a friend tried to cross Sheridan Road from east to west near Beach Road after buying two bottles of vodka from a nearby gas station, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release.

Sheriff's deputies attempted to revive Pawlawski using CPR and an automated external defibrillator device until paramedics arrived. She was taken to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The gas station clerk said Pawlawski may have been intoxicated while at the store, authorities said. Toxicology results for Pawlawski and the driver are pending and no charges have been filed at this time. The sheriff's office Technical Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.
