Classes, sports resume in McHenry 156 post teacher's contract deal

Details of a new three-year teachers' contract in McHenry High School District 156 show teachers would receive step increases of 3.6 percent in the first two years, and a 1.8 percent increase in year three of the agreement.

The district would put an end to step increases and the salary structure after year two of the new contract, according to the district website.

Teachers not on the step salary schedule would receive base pay increases of 2.3 percent, 2 percent, and 2.1 percent, respectively. All teachers also would receive a one-time bonus at the end of this school year - $700 for teachers earning less than $50,000 and $625 for teachers making more than $50,001.

The district and union also would share health insurance premium costs with the district paying 3 percent for the first two years, the union paying the next 3 percent, and both sides splitting the cost of any increase more than 6 percent. For more contract details, visit dist156.org.

The school board is expected to formally approve the agreement Monday.

The eight-day strike began Oct. 1. Classes for the district's 2,500 students resumed Tuesday.

Saturday's football games against Huntley High School will begin with the sophomores at 11 a.m. and the varsity game at 1 p.m. at McCracken Field. Senior football players, band members and their parents will be recognized before the varsity game. The homecoming court will be recognized at halftime of the varsity game and coronation will be held at the homecoming dance at 8 p.m. at the West Campus main gymnasium.
