Hersey, Prospect set for decisive MSL East meeting

Hersey's girls volleyball team won its 27th straight match in the Mid-Suburban East by defeating visiting Elk Grove 25-20, 25-14 on Tuesday.

All of the Huskies' seniors had a hand in their senior night victory.

Liz Fuerst (12-of-14, 6 kills), Katie Rozanski (9-of-12, 5 kills) and Carley Chiodo (2-of-2) helped the Huskies' attack while fellow seniors Gianna Carusiello served 3 aces and Dani Havel had 4 digs.

Junior Maggie Reisel (15-of-15, 7 assists) and sophomore Emma Strozewski (31-of-31, 9 assists) set the attack while junior Emma Frankiewicz had 9 digs.

Hersey (18-5, 9-0) visits Prospect (21-7, 8-1) in a battle for the Mid-Suburban East crown on Thursday night.

Hersey won the first meeting in Arlington Heights 25-13, 17-25, 25-22.

Elk Grove (2-27, 0-9) was led on offense by Emma Slattery (4 kills) and Alex Masnica (2) while Masnica also handed out 5 assists. Carly Crothers contributed 11 digs and Mary Cronin served 3 aces.

Prospect d. Rolling Meadows: With Maggie Porwit (10 kills), Brenda Kendziera (7), Mary Mazurek (4) and Sammy Withey (4) leading the attack, the visiting Knights posted a 25-19, 25-17 victory and improved to 21-7 and 8-1 in the MSL East.

Michelle Hanning handed out 23 assists while Kaeli Myers had 3 kills, 2 aces and 1 block for the winners.

Rolling Meadows (19-12-1, 5-4) was led by Hannah Mickey (4 kills), Connor Paige (3 kills), Jenny Srnak (3 kills). Megan King (7 assists) and Megan Mich (6 assists) set the attack.

Schaumburg d. Barrington: Visiting Schaumburg raised its record to 14-8 and 6-3 in the MSL West with a 25-22, 26-24 victory.

Senior Abbie Rahn led the Saxons' attack with 5 kills while Lexi Ross and Mallory Gerber had 3 apiece. Christina Candotti had 14 assists and Jessica Hartzman 5.

The Fillies (7-16, 5-4) were led by Gabby Morris (5 kills), Megan Talbot (2 kills) and Andi Capel (3 kills).

Palatine d. Conant: The MSL West champion Pirates won 25-13, 25-17 to improve to 19-8 and 9-0 as Claire Chaplinsky (8 kills) and Heather Holz (7) and Haley Holz (3) led the attack.

Setter Sydney Christiansen had 20 assists and Alyssa Kronberg collected 9 digs. Heather Holz also had 2 blocks against the visiting Cougars (4-17, 2-7).

Benet d. St. Viator: Benet posted a 25-15, 26- 24 victory over the host Lions (18-16, 2-4) in the East Suburban Catholic Conference match.

Alyssa Forbes (7 kills), Carrie Leazer (7) and Audrey Nuelle (3) led the attack for St. Viator as setter Micheala Mueller was 55-of-55 with 18 assists

Leyden d. Hinsdale South: The host Eagles improved to 17-10 with the 25-16, 25-12 triumph.
