Porter County airport gets $1.4 million federal grant

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Efforts to improve a regional airport in northwest Indiana are being given a significant boost by the federal government.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky has announced that the Federal Aviation Administration will give a $1.4 million grant to the Porter County Regional Airport. The money will help the rebuild the primary east-west runway at the airport located in Valparaiso.

Officials say the airport helps generate $17 million in annual economic activity.
