Duluth Trading Co. wants bigger tax rebate in Hoffman Estates

The Duluth Trading Co., which is proposing to open one of its apparel stores in the Prairie Stone Business Park in Hoffman Estates, is asking the village to rebate more of its sales taxes for a longer period of time. The agreement worked out in April is for $130,000 of sales taxes to be returned to Duluth Trading Co. over six years. The company is now asking Hoffman Estates for a 10-year, $225,000 sales tax rebate. Representatives of Baum Revision LLC are citing certain hardships - among them that the bank owning the foreclosed 6.7-acre site wants to sell all of it to Baum, more than what the store needs, because the bank reasons it will be harder to find additional tenants later. The village's planning, building and zoning committee will discuss the request at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12.
