Girls volleyball: St. Charles North wins Saxon Invite

St. Charles North's girls volleyball team knocked off Cary-Grove in the championship match Saturday to complete an unbeaten run through the field and the title of the Saxon Invite at Schaumburg.

The North Stars (25-3) defeated East Peoria, Bartlett and Hononegah in pool play then downed St. Viator in the semifinals before handing Cary-Grove a 25-22, 25-23 loss in the title match.

Claire Anderson had 39 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs on the day to lead SCN, while Daley Krage had 33 kills, 11 aces and 12 digs. Abby Graham added 13 kills, while Anna DuVall and Jordan Silvers had 9 kills each. Sam Lappin led the defense with 33 digs. She also served 5 aces.

Cary-Grove defeated Larkin, St. Viator, Schaumburg and Hononegah before falling to SCN in the finals. Ally Splitt (40 kills, 20 blocks), Erin Olson (92 assists) and Delaney Bayer (41 digs) led the Trojans (27-5) on the day.

Larkin went 0-5 for the day at Schaumburg, losing to Cary-Grove, Schaumburg, St. Viator, Bartlett and East Peoria. Natalie Kofie (62 assists, 5 blocks, 35 digs, 10 aces, 9 kills), April McGhee (36 digs, 5 aces, 10 kills), Sam Wahl (22 digs, 3 aces, 25 kills), MacKenzie Malone (11 assists, 42 digs, 5 aces) and Ella Roland (30 digs, 4 aces, 18 kills) led the Royals.

CLS wins Elk Grove tourney: Crystal Lake South downed Willowbrook, De La Salle, Carmel., Resurrection and Elk Grove to win the Elk Grove tournament Saturday. Leading the Gators (16-11) for the tournament were Emily Slimko (111 assists), Kendall Kilberger (58 kills, 38 digs), Jordan Proszenyak (36 kills, 26 digs), Kleja Cerniaauskaite (22 kills, 28 blocks), Hannah Koenig (16 blocks) and Ariana Chelini (35 digs).

At Huntley: South Elgin went 3-2 at the Huntley Invite this weekend, beating Richmond-Burton, Streamwood and Harlem while losing to Crystal Lake Central and Huntley. Stat leaders for the Storm were Rachel Priore (46 kills, 34 digs), Hayley Fisher (22 kills), Casie Swanson (32 assists, 17 digs), Julia Saldivar (56 assists, 31 digs), Libby Vedrine (15 kills), McKayla Geraghty (21 digs) and Sarah Murray (51 digs).

Jacobs also went 3-2 at the tournament, beating St. Edward, Boylan and Harlem while losing to St. Ignatius and Montini. Bridget Wallenberger had 46 kills for the Golden Eagles and Katie Mahoney added 30. Paige Queffelec (96 assists, 24 digs), Monet Charon (24 digs) and Kyla Fitzsimmons (20 kills) also contributed.

Also at Huntley, St. Edward finished 1-4. Dominique Washington (48 kills, 25 digs), Maegan Gross (33 digs), Megan Barth (24 kills, 28 digs), Erin Kremer (20 digs) and Gabby Tripicchio (17 digs, 63 assists) led the Green Wave.

Marian Central defeated Huntley for the tournament title.
