Deer Park Town Center goes pink for charity

The Deer Park Town Center was in the pink Saturday.

The center sponsored the Color the Town Pink event Saturday for breast cancer prevention. The Daily Herald organized the event, which included exercise, a fashion show and shopping.

The first 200 people who made a minimum $15 donation received a pink event T-shirt, a pink gym Quillow and other goodies.

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, the event's health sponsor, held group Tabata, followed by a fashion show by Lululemon, Lucy Activewear, Athleta, White House/Black Market, then group yoga by CorePower Yoga. The Deer Park Town Center also held a raffle.

"It's great to book events like this in the community," said participant Karolina Kolomyjska of Round Lake. "It brings everybody together and definitely brings attention to breast cancer."

All proceeds benefit the Advocate Charitable Foundation, which helps to provide mammograms for women in underserved areas and for women who are underinsured.

"You have a lot of people who are in the mall and they see all the pink and how fun it is," said M. Eileen Brown, director of marketing and strategic innovation at the Daily Herald.

Other participating retailers included Avalon Salon & Day Spa, Brighton, Brilliant Sky Toys & Books, Evereve, Gap Body, Panera Bread, The Walking Company, Victoria's Secret, Whole Foods Market and Yankee Candle. Apple also gave demonstrations of its Apple watch.
