Community Food Drive Kicks Off At Retail Stores Throughout Downtown Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, IL (OCTOBER 2015) - Twenty businesses in Downtown Highland Park have come together to kick-off a community-wide food drive throughout the month of October. In an effort to help make a dent in hunger in our community, participating retailers are collecting non-perishable food donations through October 24th to benefit North Shore food banks. The collection will culminate at a Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, October 24th, from 11am-1pm, on the 650 block of Central Avenue. The retailer with the most items collected will have the mountainous display of non-perishable goods displayed in front of their store during the Touch-A-Truck event. Rain date scheduled for October 25th.

"This fall food drive is a great way for us to give back and help the people in our community who turn to food banks for assistance," says Pam Hillman, the owner of Posh Essentials, Sprout Kids and Beanstalk Toyland & Bookstore. "We are proud to support Moraine Township Food Pantry and other food banks on the North Shore and the good work they do to fight hunger."

"This is the season in which we really need food donations the most," says Anne Flanigan Bassi, Moraine Township Supervisor. "It's gets difficult to keep our pantry fully stocked during this time of year and we welcome the support for the 750 residents from 220 households that visit our food pantry each month." Items that are most needed include: canned goods, toiletries, pasta, rice, oil, pasta, pasta sauce, jams and jellies.

Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at any of the following locations through October 24th: Ami Ami, Beanstalk Toyland & Bookstore, Bett's, B2, Citywoods, Cos Bar, Eileen Fisher, Goodies, Gordon Salon, HP Tops, Jolie Maison, My Best Friends Closet, My Only Hang Up, Posh Essentials, Ross Cosmetics & Boutique, Running Right, Sprout Kids, Sunset Foods and Theraputic Kneads. Kosher items may be dropped off at Highland Pop, a cRc kosher certified shop. For more information, please visit DowntownHP.com, or contact Pam Hillman at pamelahillman@yahoo.com or 847-910-8447.
