Chicago man sentenced to 5 years for CTA train beating

SKOKIE, Ill. (AP) - A Chicago man has been sentenced to five years in prison for severely beating a man on a Chicago Transit Authority train in Skokie.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office says 33-year-old Ganaa Otgoo was being verbally abusive to other passengers and attacked the 60-year-old man after he asked Otgoo to be quiet. The assault took place in March 2014.

Prosecutors say Otgoo threw punches, knocked the man to the floor with a kick to the chest and then kicked the man in the face, leaving a shoeprint on the victim's forehead.

Otgoo was arrested a short while later after Chicago police used CTA surveillance photos to identify him as a suspect in a similar crime in Chicago.

He was convicted of felony aggravated battery. His sentencing was Thursday.
