Schaumburg Library offers college and scholarship preparation programs

Parents and their high school students are invited to college and scholarship preparation workshops and programs throughout October at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. C2 Education will offer three "Road to College" presentations this month in the library's Adult Classroom on the second floor, with a separate library program covering the topic of scholarships. Registration is required for all of the following free programs.

In the "Admissions" program from 7-8, Wednesday, Oct. 14, attendees will find out what college admissions officers look for in potential students. C2 Education presenters will help students develop a game plan and offer tips for crafting the perfect college application.

Students can learn about "Majors and Careers" from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21 to help them succeed in college and beyond. C2 Education presenters will offer strategies for deciding on a major and career, as well as building a core skill set for attaining their goals.

College-bound high school students will learn how to impress admissions officers in "Application and Essay" from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28. Participants will learn the ins and outs of a stellar college admissions essay, from choosing a prompt and finding a topic to writing and revising. C2 Education presenters will explain why early preparation is the key to a well-written application and essay.

In addition to the C2 Education programs, the library will hold "All About Scholarships" from 7-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, also in the Adult Classroom. Parents and students will learn where and how to look for college scholarships and make their scholarship applications shine. The basics of a scholarship application will be included, as well as tips from successful applicants.
