Vernon Hills' strong play continues

Chris White scored his 10th goal of the season, and Vernon Hills' boys soccer team blanked Grayslake North 2-0 in an abbreviated nonconference match Thursday.

The Cougars (12-5), who scored both of their goals in the first half, earned their seventh shutout of the year. The game was delayed due to lightning and then was called 27 minutes into the second half due to more lightning.

Joseph Lee added his fifth goal of the season. Steven Tow assisted on both tallies, while keeper Brennan Reback did not have to make a save in recording his seventh shutout.

"I thought North came out with a lot of energy the first (half) of each half," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "But I thought our boys responded well and settled the game down by playing possession soccer and connecting all over the field. We have been playing our best soccer of the year in October, and that is all you can ask for heading down the stretch as a coach. Defensively, we have been very well organized and been holding our shape well. I thought both of our goals tonight were spectacular."

Hampshire 5, Grayslake Central 1: The Rams trailed 2-1 at halftime of the Fox Valley Fox match.

The loss dropped Grayslake Central to 9-7-3 and 3-2 in the FVC Fox.
