Week 7, West Suburban: Battle of unbeaten Glenbard West, Oak Park

Glenbard West (6-0, 4-0) at Oak Park (6-0, 3-0) West Suburban Silver

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Last week: Glenbard West 35, Hinsdale Central 24; Oak Park 21, York 6.

Last year: Glenbard West 28, Oak Park 14.

Outlook: After beating Lyons Twp. and Hinsdale Central, this will be the third straight week Glenbard West faces an unbeaten Silver rival. Hilltoppers running back Sam Brodner, committed to Vanderbilt, showed why he's among the state's elite last week while rushing for 175 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns. Isaiah Skinner and Dominick Ficarella also came up with huge plays in the ground game, but quarterback Brian Cochrane consistently found Chrystian Maciorowski and Adam Zybko on crucial pass plays. Last week may have been the stiffest test of the season for the Glenbard West defense headed by linebackers Ross Andreasik, Nico Gagliano and cornerback Kobe Easley. Oak Park's defense, however, presents the toughest test for the Hilltoppers' offense. Defensive lineman Allen Stallings and linebacker Jahmari Moore head a Huskies unit that's allowed only 58 points - the fewest points allowed in the Silver.

Next week: Proviso West at Glenbard West; Oak Park at Lyons Twp.

Addison Trail (3-3, 2-2) at Morton (1-5, 1-2)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Because Blazers quarterback Ryan Zygowicz is a game-time decision with an injury, backup Bobby Daniels is ready to go thanks to a full week of game prep. That being said, expect to see even more of Mike Hundley and Addison Trail's run game.

Downers Grove North (2-4) at Downers Grove South (2-4)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: This matchup goes way beyond bragging rights. Winner keeps its season alive while the loser is eliminated from playoff contention. Last week Mustangs running back Jonathon Caudell-Dotson notched his second 100-yard rushing game.

Hinsdale South (4-2, 3-1) at Leyden (3-3, 2-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: A win moves the Hornets a step closer to their first WSC Gold title since 2005. Last week's convincing victory over Addison Trail came from the two-pronged attack of Marcus Curry's punishing running and quarterback Sean McCormack's passing. After a pair of stinging losses by a combined total of 4 points, Leyden bounced back last week with an impressive victory over Downers Grove South. The Eagles have an opportunity to move into first place in the balanced West Suburban Gold with a win over the Hornets. But the Leyden defense, which has allowed a conference-best 88 points, will need to slow down the highest-scoring team in the Gold. Hinsdale South is averaging 35.5 points and has scored 42 points in each of its last 2 games.

Lyons Twp. (5-1, 2-1) at Hinsdale Central (5-1, 3-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: These teams always get fired up to play each other, and this matchup will be no different with a guaranteed playoff berth going to the winner. Red Devils running back Christian Bobak had a breakout performance last week, rushing for 242 yards.

Proviso East (0-6, 0-3) at Willowbrook (3-3, 2-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: With only 20 playoff points Willowbrook needs to win out to reach the postseason. The Warriors' thrilling win over Morton last week featured sophomore running back Jack Jessen's game-winning touchdown run in the final half-minute.

York (2-4, 0-3) at Proviso West (1-5, 0-3)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: For the Dukes to win three straight and qualify for the playoffs, they must prevent big plays like the two punts blocked last week by Oak Park. Injured quarterback Johnny DiCanio missed the bulk of that game, but he should be ready to go in this one.
