Grant springs upset on Lake

Kyle Mueller was 21-of-23 hitting with 5 kills, Megan Gebauer added four, and Grant's girls volleyball team upset host Lakes 28-26, 27-25 in North Suburban Prairie Division action Wednesday night.

Taylor Drake and Hannah Johnson had 4 and 2 solo blocks, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Grant served tough with Megan Whitman (10-10 1 ace), Kate Kiser (11-11), Mueller (9-11), Emily Bringer (7-8, 2 aces) and Carlee Holland (6-7). Kiser also set 59 of 60 with 21 assists. Kelli Varney posted a team-high 7 digs.

Wauconda d. Round Lake: Sara Sexton slammed 10 kills in the North Suburban Prairie match to lead the host Bulldogs on "Pack The Pantry" night.

The win was the 20th of the season for Wauconda (20-4, 4-0). Kayl Wedl added 6 kills and Hayley Redmann had three for the Bulldogs, who received 15 assists and 3 aces from Catie Petralia. Jane Sakowicz, Corrina Vaughan and Aimee Berg each served 2 aces.

Libertyville d. Zion-Benton: The visiting Wildcats won 25-21, 25-11 to improve to 21-5 and 5-0 in the North Suburban Lake, as Hannah Zerwas led the way with 11 kills.

Claire Williams and Annika Hawkinson added 4 kills apiece, and Caroline Frea had 3 kills. Anna Lillydahl dished out 24 assists, while Jacqui Widmark contributed 5 kills and 2 aces. The Wildcats also received 5 assists from Betsy Liu and 14 digs from Morgan O Brien.

Lake Zurich d. Mundelein: The Bears won the North Suburban Lake match 25-18, 25-9, as Hannah Sweetwood had 10 kills.

Mundelein's Sidney Brunkow had 2 kills and 8 digs and served 6 of 6.

Vernon Hills d. North Chicago: The Cougars won 25-6, 25-8 in North Suburban Prairie action.
