Ex-Illinois official back to prison after name change

SPRINGFILED, Ill. (AP) - A judge has sentenced an ex-Illinois official to prison after he changed his name, claimed he's dead and violated his supervised-release conditions.

A Monday statement from Springfield's U.S. attorney's office says a federal judge sentenced former Kankakee County Board member Larry Dean Gibbs to nine months in prison last week after he pleaded guilty to violating terms of his release. He must report Nov. 2.

The 54-year-old was on supervised release after serving time for a federal tax conviction.

Prosecutors say Gibbs filed court papers in June saying Larry Dean Gibbs is dead. He also changed his name to Mulumbua El Taikaem Bey (may-LUHM'-bah EHL' TAHY'-keym-bay). He allegedly violated his release conditions by traveling to Minnesota in May without permission.

A message seeking comment from his attorney Monday wasn't returned.
