Women suicide bombers kill 15 in mosque at government estate

DAMATURU, Nigeria (AP) - A witness says two women suicide bombers in northeast Nigeria killed themselves and at least 13 other people at a mosque in the compound of a government workers' housing estate and at another location there.

Resident Ibrahim Musa says he saw 15 bodies and another 12 wounded people have been rushed to the hospital in Damaturu, a town in Yobe state that has suffered dozens of attacks during uprising by Boko Haram extremists.

Residents blamed them for the 6 a.m. attack on Buhari Housing Estate, apparently named after President Muhammadu Buhari.

The insurgents have stepped up attacks since Buhari took office in May pledging to halt the Islamic insurgency.

Risk consultancy Verisk Maplecroft has recorded 3,770 civilian deaths this year linked to Boko Haram's uprising.
