Benedictine event addresses role of corporations in curbing climate change

LISLE - Susan Albers Mohrman, Ph.D., senior research scientist at the Center for Effective Organizations in the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, will present "Corporate Stewardship: Accelerating Fundamental Organizational Evolution" from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 24, on the fourth floor of the Daniel L. Goodwin Hall of Business AT Benedictine University in Lisle.

A number of global organizations agree there is an urgent need for action to address climate change, pollution and resource shortages. Corporations, they say, must be key players in addressing these challenges. Executives and staff members at every level will need to adopt profound changes for their organizations to make more responsible use of natural and societal resources for future generations before it is too late.

Mohrman's presentation is part of Benedictine's 50-plus Years of Graduate Education in Organization Development Lecture Series, which celebrates more than five decades of the University's Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior and Ph.D. in Organization Development programs. Both programs are recognized worldwide for educating managers who are competent in the human side of enterprise and regularly attract some of the industry's foremost thought leaders and top-level executives to campus.

Both programs provide a solid foundation in management skills, such as how to effectively motivate employees, design and implement a better workforce culture and drive change.

Mohrman is the organizer of an international consortium of academics and practitioners for the joint exploration and generation of research on organizing for sustainability. Recently, she has been the principle investigator in a six-year study of network organizations and the creation and dissemination of knowledge funded by the Department of Energy's National Laboratories.

Mohrman's research concerns the area of organization design and effectiveness and large-scale change, and she has written several books of interest on the topic, including "Useful Research: Advancing Theory and Practice," "The Handbook of Collaborative Management Research," "Tomorrow's Organization: Crafting Winning Capabilities in a Dynamic World," "Managing Complexity in High Technology Organizations" and "Large Scale Organizational Change."

Mohrman has also served on the Academy of Management Board of Governors, the board of directors of the Human Resource Planning Society and on the editorial boards of many academic journals.
