Tickets on sale for St. Charles Veteran Honor Show at Arcada Theatre Nov. 12
The St. Charles Arts Council, American Legion Post 342, AMVETS Post 503, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5036, People for the Arts/East High School and Community Unit District 303, will host the inaugural "Celebrating Veterans Through Art" event. It runs from Nov. 7-14, featuring concerts, an art gallery, a public art installation project, veteran interview videos, and more.
Tickets are on sale now for a featured event - the Veteran Honor Show from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St.
The show is part concert and part theater, combining music, videos and the spoken word to tell veterans' stories. Country music singer Olivia Dvorak of St. Charles will perform. Members of the St. Charles Singers, an internationally known choral music group, will sing pieces from their "Americana" song book. Also performing will be Mark Ponzo, the solo cornet with The New Sousa Band and Illinois Brass Band as well as principal trumpet of the Fox Valley Orchestra and Antiqua Baroque Consort.
Spoken word performers - Russ Devereaux, World War II veteran Richard Williams, Patrick Mola (U.S. Army Airborne Infantryman, Afghanistan 2009-10), and Scott Surowiec - will take veterans' stories that have been interviewed and videotaped by students from St. Charles East High School's Class of 2017 and translate those veterans' military experiences into powerful and moving spoken word performances.
The show will be preceded by a veterans-only reception at The Office restaurant, 201 E. Main St. This reception, paid for by American Legion Post 342, AMVETS Post 503, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5036, will be free to veterans, who may bring one guest. Reservations for the reception may be made by contacting the St. Charles Arts Council at info@StCharlesArtsCouncil.org or (630) 443-3794. Space is limited.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and free for veterans with proof of service. They may be purchased through the St. Charles Arts Council website at www.stcharlesartscouncil.org and click on "Donations." Note, you do not have to use a Pay Pal account to purchase tickets. To pay with a credit card, simply fill out the information on the screen - name, credit card information, etc. Or, if you wish to use your PayPal account, log in with your email address and password. On the second screen, go to "Add special instructions to the seller" and fill in "Tickets." If you purchase an online ticket, stop by the Arcada Theatre box office as you enter the theater to check in.
