Naperville auditions for 'Mary Poppins'

Children and adults are invited to audition this month for Magical Starlight Theatre's production of "Mary Poppins."

Auditions will be Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24 and 25, at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville. Children must be in fourth grade or older to audition. Actors younger than 16 may audition from 1 to 2:30 p.m. either Saturday or Sunday.

Actors 16 and older may audition from 2 to 4 p.m. either day. Call backs, if necessary, will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26.

Youth and adult actors are asked to prepare an up-tempo song highlighting their vocal range. All auditioning should bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. There also will be a tap dance audition; participants should come prepared. There will be a general movement audition and cold reading from the script. British accents are requested for speaking roles.

Eight performances will be presented: Jan. 15 to 17 and Jan. 22 to 24 at Naperville Central High School Auditorium, 440 W. Aurora Ave., Naperville. All performances are mandatory.

Rehearsals generally will be scheduled for Sunday afternoons and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Actors playing Mary, Bert, Jane or Michael will have mandatory rehearsals Jan. 8 and 9.

Magical Starlight Theatre is a program of the Naperville Park District. Magical Starlight strives to include community actors and production staff of all ages in its productions and provides an opportunity for adults and young people to work together as peers and to learn from one another.
