Barrington advances to sectional; Fremd's Schaeffer top medalist

On this day, even having five scores in the 70s wasn't enough for Barrington to claim top honors in the Buffalo Grove boys golf regional Tuesday.

That's because Highland Park had four scores in the 70s, including a 70 from Noah Fishbein and a 71 from Ben Udell, as the Giants won with a score of 293.

Barrington, paced by Burke Barsamian's 72, finished second at 295. Joining Highland Park and Barrington in team competition in next week's Rockford East sectional will be Stevenson (296).

Fremd senior Eric Schaeffer earned medalist honors with a 68 at Buffalo Grove Golf Club. He, senior Payton Kim (73) and freshman Colin Robinson (78) each advanced to the sectional as individuals for the Vikings.

Barrington's other counting scores came from Tom Calbi (73), Timothy Lim (74) and Cole Kempinski (76). Sawyer Smith (77) and Sean Dolan (83) also competed for the Mid-Suburban League champs.

Stevenson's low score came from Kamaren Sandhu (70). The Patriots also counted 75's from Jack Russell and Jedi Jhu, and a 76 from Zach Orlowsky.

Lake Zurich had a pair of individual qualifiers, Ryan Brandt (77) and Matt Gadomski (80).

Buffalo Grove's Connor Burhap shot 78, and Palatine's Chris Fortunato (80) and Matt Weltzien (81) rounded out the individual sectional qualifiers.

Lake Park regional: York, Lake Park and Oak Park-River Forest claimed the top three team finishes at Indian Lakes Resort, and both Elk Grove and Leyden advanced individuals to next week's Conant sectional at Bridges of Poplar Creek.

York senior Will Gunst earned medalist honors by shooting 71 as the Dukes' team total of 294 was 30 strokes better than runner-up Lake Park (324). OPRF came in at 334.

Elk Grove senior Kyle Zuba shot 82, the second-best score of the individual sectional qualifiers. Junior Robert Leone also advanced with an 85 for the Grens, who had a team score of 349.

Leyden had three players advance - senior Gabe Garcia (85) and juniors Graham Pedersen (88) and Ryan Langer (90). The Eagles shot 356.
