Trooper gets court supervision for roadside strip search

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois state trooper has been sentenced to one year of court supervision for a roadside strip search in East St. Louis that was captured on his patrol car's dashboard camera.

Corey Alberson of Swansea was convicted last month of misdemeanor aggravated assault but not a more serious felony aggravated battery charge. St. Clair County Circuit Judge Jan Fiss sentenced the 33-year-old Alberson on Tuesday.

Authorities say Alberson pulled down a motorist's pants and examined the man's buttocks and genitals with a flashlight during the April 2014 traffic stop. Alberson and another trooper testified they stopped the man based on a tip about a possible drug delivery. No drugs were found.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1LgkNn0) the search came to light during a review of dash-cam videos. Alberson was placed on unpaid leave when charged.
