St. Charles North, East girls to 'Volley for the Cure' Tuesday

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the St. Charles North Girls Volleyball team will host St. Charles East for their seventh annual "Volley for the Cure" event. Each year the Illinois High School Association encourages its member high schools' girls volleyball programs to team up to fight against breast cancer.

This year's event will be held in the North gymnasium, with the junior varsity match beginning at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at approximately 5:30 p.m. Prior to the varsity match, both schools will honor breast cancer survivors who are friends and family members of both programs. A moment of silence will be observed in respect for all those families affected by breast cancer.

"Volley for the Cure" T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event for $10. Purchase of a T-shirt includes admission to the match. Proceeds from T-shirt sales and "50/50 Raffle" tickets will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Volley for the Cure was created by the Susan G. Komen Foundation as a way to honor and celebrate the heroic fight against breast cancer. The promotion is dedicated to all the men and women who have been touched by breast cancer with the hopes that this devastating disease will one day be cured.

A fact sheet about younger women and breast cancer, prepared by the IHSA, is available at ihsa.org/SportsActivities/GirlsVolleyball.aspx. For more information on the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, please visit ww5.komen.org.
