What is spirulina?

Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is purported to be a good source of iron, Vitamin Bs and protein, and helpful in boosting your immune system, increasing your metabolism and fighting inflammation.

But there is no hard scientific evidence to support these claims.

It is important to buy a reputable brand of spirulina to avoid any additional substances that can be toxic.

You can purchase powder or pill forms of spirulina. Be careful if you buy it in powder form. It's very fine and can quickly coat your kitchen in green.

It's simple to toss a teaspoon in a smoothie or glass of tomato juice. Or you can add it to your food. There are dozens of recipes online like spirulina avocado cucumber bites or spirulina chai pudding.
