Police: Chicago officers shoot, kill man wielding gun

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say officers responding to reports of someone with a gun shot and killed a suspect after the man allegedly rushed them wielding a handgun.

A Chicago Police Department statement says the incident occurred Sunday morning at a residence on the city's West Side.

The statement says witnesses told officers as they arrived that a victim inside had been shot and the officers forced their way through a locked door.

The armed suspect allegedly came at the officers once they entered. The statement says that, "in fear for their lives, the officers discharged their weapons fatally striking the offender."

Officers found a woman with gunshot and stab wounds inside. She was transported to a hospital in serious condition. No officers were injured.

Police didn't identify those involved.
