Carpi beats Torino for 1st Serie A win on Sannino's debut

MILAN (AP) - Carpi recorded its first ever Serie A win with a 2-1 victory over Torino on Saturday as new coach Giuseppe Sannino had an immediate effect, while Chievo Verona rescued a 1-1 draw in its derby match at home to Hellas Verona.

Sannino was hired on Tuesday to replace Fabrizio Castori, who was sacked after six matches, with Carpi bottom of the table with just two points.

Carpi broke the deadlock with a bit of luck as Gabriel Silva's effort crashed off the left post and went in off Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli's shoulder.

The home side doubled its lead in the 72nd when Ryder Matos headed Marco Borriello's cross into the bottom right corner.

Torino was handed a way back into the match three minutes later when Maxi Lopez fired a penalty into the right side of the net after being brought down by Igor Bubnjic.

Carpi moved provisionally level on points with four-time defending champion Juventus, which is having a dreadful start to the season. Torino remained third ahead of Sunday's matches.

Chievo was a point below Torino, moving into fourth place on goal difference, after denying struggling Verona a first win of the season.

Lucas Castro headed home Massimo Gobbi's cross six minutes from time after Verona's controversial opener.

Television replays showed that Eros Pisano was clearly offside when Vangelis Moras flicked on Federico Viviani's free kick.
