Boys soccer: St. Charles East has successful trip to St. Louis

At the Gateway Soccer Classic: St. Charles East completed a 3-game set with a 2-0-1 record in St. Louis, including a win against Francis Howell (MO) 3-2 Saturday. Mitch Lucatorto, Brandon DiOrio and Jasminko Dizdarevic all knotted second-half goals while Chris Edgerton and Tyler Champine added assists. The Saints (9-4-2) settled for a 4-4 tie against Reitz Memorial (IN), as Dizdarevic, Michael Peters, Aldo Bautista and Justin Stepien found the net. Mitch Dorsey collected 2 assists and Will Arnold added 1.

Elgin 5, Grant 0: Jon Ramirez's 2 goals gave the Maroons (9-4-2) a 25-goal scorer as well as a nonconference win. Omar Lopez would steal the show, however, with a hat trick while Caesar Gomez added a hat trick of assists as well. Omar Gonzalez and Jose Perez each added assists while Martin Jimenez-Estrada's 1 save earned the Elgin keeper a shutout.

Streamwood 2, West Chicago 1: Donnie Sosa sank a penalty kick and Edwin Rueda scorched a free kick in the Sabres' Upstate Eight crossover win. Streamwood (7-6-3) goalie Daniel Dominguez notched 2 saves.

Burlington Central 2, Johnsburg 1: The Rockets (8-7-1) improved to 7-2 in the Big Northern East with a win over the Skyhawks. Cole Tecza and Jack Schramme came away with goals while Austin Grenert provided 1 assist. Ryan Fitzgerald made 7 saves to give Central its fourth-straight win.

Elgin Academy 8, Paw Paw 2: The Hilltoppers (6-4-1) had a 5-1 lead at the half en route to a 6-goal homecoming win. Patrick Westerhoff led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist while Karl Rauschenberger also tallied 2 goals. Julian Roman had 1 goal and 2 assists and Armin Ward totaled 1 goal and 1 assist. Elliot Wittmeyer and Jin Park each had 1 goal while Karan Gowda fired 2 assists. Goalkeeper Nick Kathrein collected 2 saves.

Marmion 2, Oswego 0: Quinn Gratz's 2 second half goals were all the Cadets needed in a nonconference win. Danny Galush made 4 saves in net for the shutout and Nick Grant and Sean Miller each added assists.

CL South 1, Conant 1: The top seed in Huntley's Class 3A sub-sectional settled for a nonconference tie as Jake Canfield scored a second half goal to avoid a loss. Jeff Kirshenbaum added an assist and keeper Spencer Traub posted 5 saves.

Schaumburg 4, Bartlett 1: Venice Leone cashed in on an assist by Ryan Stratton but the Hawks (9-5-1) weren't able to come away with a nonconference win over the Saxons. Jake Hasenstein made 4 saves in net.
