FDNY: 1 dead, 3 others injured in apparent gas blast

NEW YORK (AP) - Officials suspect a recently disconnected stove may have caused an apparent gas explosion that killed a woman and injured three others in Brooklyn.

City Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro says firefighters received a call around 1 p.m. Saturday reporting an explosion at a building in the Borough Park neighborhood. He says when emergency crews arrived they found the entire front of the three-story building blown into the street.

Officials suspect the explosion originated in an apartment on the second floor.

A man and his son who were walking by the building when it exploded were injured. A passer-by also was hurt.

Officials initially said the man was 33 and the boy was 10; police later gave the ages as 34 and 9. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy.
