Bartlett Park District offers fall programs

The Bartlett Park District offers a variety of activities this month; some require advance registration. For information, call (630) 540-4800 or visit www.bartlettparks.org.

Kindergarten Klub:

It is designed for children who are ready for an extended Kindergarten day and looking for enrichment activities including arts, crafts, stories, songs, games and gym or playground time. This program runs from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. Thursdays at the Bartlett Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road. The fee per date is $10 resident and $14 per nonresident. Program dates include: Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5, 12, 19, Dec. 3 and 10. Advance registration is required at the center.

Free Martial Arts Class:

On Monday, Oct. 26, bring the family to try out a free Tae Kwon Do class at the Bartlett Community Center for free! Taekwondo is a foundational martial art built upon centuries of combined physical and mental training. Literally translated, taekwondo means the "The Way of the Hand and Foot". Through progressive training, students will be exposed to the fundamentals of kicks, blocks, strikes and may earn progressive belt status if desired. As students progress, practical skills in weapons are also taught and practiced. Learn from Instructors who are certified in Taekwondo, self-defense, and additional Martial Arts disciplines. Mini Mosaics:

Join in the Nature Center craft series this fall and put your inner artist to work. This class for ages 6-12 will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, for a fee of $15. Mosaics are colorful and eye- catching designs. In this class, make mini mosaics using tiles, colored beads, and treasures found in nature, like acorns and stone. Create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece to brighten your home. This class is held at the Bartlett Nature Center, 2054 W. Stearns Road, at the James "Pate" Philip State Park Visitor Center. Advance registration is required at the Bartlett Community Center.

Mixin' in the Kitchen:

Give your child the skills they need to be successful in the kitchen starting with the basics in this fun class for ages 4-12. Good nutrition and fun will be on the menu in this hands-on culinary workshop. They will cover breakfast, lunch, snacks, appetizers and healthy desserts. Parents, join your chef during the last 15 minutes of class for tasting. Please note any allergies or dietary restrictions when signing up. Class will be 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 3 to Dec. 1, at the Bartlett Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road. The fee is $67 or $77 for nonresidents. Advance registration is required at the center.

Woman's Self-Defense Class:

Instructors from National Karate will teach teen girls and women simple and effective ways to defend themselves. Participants will learn and practice physical techniques to escape an assault, or break free from being grabbed. Instructors also will discuss how to recognize potential dangers and ways to reduce risks. Participants also will learn verbal techniques that can help prevent an assault and make you less vulnerable. The class will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the center's dance studio, 700 S. Bartlett Road. Fee is $15 or $20 nonresident. Learn how to protect yourself and avoid becoming a victim. Advance registration required.

Lunch and Brunch at Villa Olivia:

The Villa Olivia restaurant, ucked away at 1401 W. Lake St., features a delicious Sunday Brunch from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The brunch includes all your favorite breakfast items as well as an assortment of lunch dishes including a carving station. Looking for a new lunch spot? Try VO Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu includes appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and other specialty dishes perfect to get you back on track for the rest of your day.
