Central Suburban Week 6: Maine West looks to strengthen playoff hopes against Niles North

Maine West (3-2, 1-0) at Niles North (2-3, 0-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Last year: Niles North 65, Maine West 26

Outlook: Maine West has already won more games than it has in any season since 2005. And the Warriors are not satisfied. They are eyeing their first playoff appearance since 2002, and a win over Niles North on Friday would provide more momentum. Maine West has rolled up 136 points in its first 5 games thanks to the play of quarterback Jake Riportella. But the Warriors defense, led by Daniel Estrada, has allowed just 16.5 points per game. That defense will need to shut down Niles North's high-scoring offense, which is scoring nearly 39 points per game.
