Huntley meets Jacobs in battle of unbeatens

Jacobs (5-0, 1-0) at Huntley (5-0, 1-0)

Game time: 7:15 p.m. Friday

Last week: Huntley 29, Cary-Grove 8; Jacobs 49, Dundee-Crown 17

Last year: Huntley 37, Jacobs 14

It would make for a happy homecoming if Huntley can win its second straight against an undefeated Fox Valley Conference Valley Division rival.

Jacobs would like nothing better than to spoil someone's homecoming festivities for the second straight week.

The Huntley defense played its best game of the season last week against the Cary-Grove triple option.

The Red Raiders face a spread attack directed by Jacobs junior quarterback Chris Katrenick, who has an offer from Virginia and lots of Big Ten interest.

He has completed 63 of 89 passes for 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns (3 ints.), thanks to the pass blocking of seniors Bryant Finkler and Jack Golnick, juniors Kyle Vega and Alex Kulon and sophomore Jim Wormsley.

Senior Nathan Meland leads a bevy of talented Jacobs receivers with 24 receptions for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns.

"They are really good," Huntley coach John Hart said. "They have a hall-of-fame coach, a major Division-I quarterback and three wide receivers who look they're playing basketball on grass. They give you plenty of challenges."

Huntley quarterback Anthony Binetti connected with sophomore Eric Mooney last week 3 times for 119 yards and a touchdown.

"Both teams are very balanced," Jacobs coach Bill Mitz said. "Binetti is a good quarterback who can throw the ball and Eric, of course, is a fine athlete for a young kid. It's going to be a real exciting game. Both teams obviously want it bad. They put it to us last year so we're hoping to have a better showing."

Next week: Jacobs at Cary-Grove (4-1); Crystal Lake South (4-1) at Huntley
