4 finalists remain for Illinois Auditor General job

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A state commission says the four finalists to replace retiring Illinois Auditor General William Holland include two Democratic legislators, a southern Illinois attorney and an auditor from California.

The Illinois Legislative Audit Commission announced the finalists on Wednesday.

The auditor general serves a 10-year term and oversees agency audits.

Fourteen applications were received for the job and seven candidates were interviewed last week. Holland announced his retirement in June. He was first appointed in 1992.

The finalists are Spring Valley state Rep. Frank Mautino, Northbrook state Rep. Elaine Nekritz, attorney Larry Sanders from Marion and Mary Modelski, who is a division chief for an internal audit division of Alameda County in California.
