Illinois attorney general seeks details from Volkswagen

CHICAGO (AP) - Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office has asked for detailed information from Volkswagen in an investigation conducted by dozens of state attorneys general.

Madigan told reporters Thursday that a subpoena issued a day earlier by her office seeks wide-ranging information, but she didn't offer specifics.

More than two dozen attorneys general launched an investigation last week after the German automaker admitted it rigged diesel emissions technology to pass U.S. smog tests.

Madigan says they're seeking information about why it happened, the impact and cost. She says the length of the investigation depends on how quickly information is received and how long the resolution takes.

U.S.-based Volkswagen spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan said Thursday that the company doesn't comment on pending litigation.

The state attorneys general have said they'd send subpoenas.
