Judson University earns higher ranking on "Best Colleges" survey:

Judson University in Elgin ranks at No. 33 among the Best Midwest Regional Colleges, according to the U.S. News & World Report's "Best Colleges" survey for 2016.

Judson has made the annual list since 2005, at times posting higher and lower than it did for 2016. It has consistently maintained its Top Tier status in the Midwest Regional Colleges category among 363 colleges surveyed. Last year, Judson ranked at No. 36, officials said.

"Moving up in the U.S. News and World Report's rankings coupled with Judson being recognized in July as a '2015 Christian College of Distinction' clearly shows that we are living out our mission and others are noticing our progress," Judson President Gene Crume said.

U.S. News & World Report college rankings include more than 1,800 schools nationwide and is published online at usnews.com. The "Best Colleges" comprehensive survey provides a thorough examination of how accredited four-year schools compare on a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.

Among the many factors that determine rankings include key quality measures such as: graduation and retention rates, student-to-teacher ratios, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and, for National Universities and National Liberal Art Colleges, "graduation rate performance" and high school counselor ratings of colleges.

Judson University has a graduation rate of 50 percent, and a student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1. Eighty-two percent of Judson's full-time faculty holds the appropriate terminal degree. Students eligible for studying in Judson's traditional undergraduate program typically have earned a 20 to 26 ACT score, with 44 percent of freshmen students listed in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class.

"It is very humbling to be recognized by our peers in higher education as well as organizations outside academia, and it is a tribute to the passion of our faculty, staff and students have for Judson," Crume said.
