Thorstenson in line to be Gurnee trustee

Gurnee Mayor Kristina Kovarik is expected to make an appointment to fill a vacant village board seat Monday. The agenda for the 7 p.m. meeting shows Kovarik intends to have Karen Thorstenson replace Steve Park as a village trustee. Park resigned from the post last month. Village board members will need to ratify Thorstenson's appointment to make it official. Thorstenson's resignation from her village planning and zoning board also is on the agenda. The meeting will be at village hall, 325 N. O'Plaine Road. The appointment to Park's seat will serve until the April 2017 election. Park served on Gurnee's advisory zoning board of appeals from 1999 to 2001, then shifted to the advisory plan commission, which he served on from 2001 to 2011. He joined the village board in 2011 and was re-elected to another 4-year term last April.
