WIM Fox Valley to welcome Elgin library director Oct. 8

Women In Management Fox Valley will welcome Carole Medal, executive director of the Gail Borden Public Library District, to the Thursday, Oct. 8 meeting.

The luncheon will be held at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road, with networking at 11:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon and program at noon. Meetings adjourn promptly at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $22 or $25 for nonmembers. Area women business owners and managers are welcome to attend this month's presentation. Reservations must be made for attendance online at www.wimfoxvalley.org.

Led by moderator and WIM member Nancy Guthrie, president of Business Matters in Elgin, Medal will discuss her experiences and the library's successful community outreach.

Prior to her current position in Elgin, Medal was the executive director at Rolling Meadows Library and a division chief at Chicago Public Library. She received her master of library science degree from Indiana University.

Through the years, Medal has utilized her leadership and expertise to elevate and innovate library services in meeting the expectations of the community. She has served on numerous national, state, and local committees as well as presenting at conferences and seminars.

In 2009, Medal was elected president of the Illinois Library Association, an organization with over 3,700 members comprised of public, academic, school and special libraries. In 2013, she received the honor of being named Illinois Librarian of the Year.

Positioning itself as the hub of community activity, engaged partnerships and leader of innovation, Gail Borden Library has garnered numerous national, state and local awards during her tenure including "The Community's Favorite Place" as well as The National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation's highest honor bestowed on a library.

"Our Gail Borden Library is a local gem in the community," said Ramona "Monie" Burns, this year's 2015-16 WIM Fox Valley president. "We look forward to hearing from Carole and finding out what exciting projects are ahead."

Burns is owner of MoMo's Concierge Services in Elgin, which provides harmony, security and freedom at home and work through a variety of personal and professional services.

Burns added, "We are pleased to welcome three new members to WIM Fox Valley - Julia McClendon of YWCA Elgin, Michelle Charron of First American Bank and Cathy Trumbower of Master Molded Products, LLC. Guests are warmly welcomed to attend our meetings and find out more about WIM Fox Valley."

Upcoming speakers include Michael Brown, regional president/CEO of Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and Presence Mercy Medical Center Aurora on Nov. 12; a discussion of the book, "Essentialism," by Greg McKeown Dec. 10; Elena Ferrarin, Daily Herald reporter Jan. 14, 2016; retired U.S. Army Colonel Jill Morgenthaler Feb. 11; Britten Follett of Follett Educational Foundation on April 14; and authors Jerry and Phyllis Campagna May 5.
