District 214 holds Coding Literacy Workshop

High School District 214 will host a coding literacy workshop for administrators and instructional leaders interested in learning about the district's Information Technology (IT) career pathway and its innovative IOS app development course.

"Coding: The New Literacy For All" will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 6, at John Hersey High School, 1900 E. Thomas St. in Arlington Heights.

Participants will hear from District 214 staff and students in the course and will also learn how the district has integrated coding into the math curriculum.

Career pathways, a major initiative in District 214, are multiyear programs of academic and technical study that prepare students for a range of post-secondary options and link student learning to the knowledge and skills needed for future education and employment.

The IT pathway allows high school students to earn up to 20 early college credits, three industry credentials and an internship experience.

At the workshop, Apple and Mobile Makers will present their IOS app development curricular materials and programs.
