Gun being tested to determine if it was used in Grayslake-area slaying
A Crystal Lake man was found dead Tuesday night in Chicago, and a gun discovered at the scene is being tested to determine if it was the same weapon used in the fatal shooting of a Grayslake-area woman earlier in the day, authorities said.
Tuesday evening, police had urged the public to be cautious because Leo Amin, 30, who had not been located at the time, was said to be armed and dangerous. He was identified as a person of interest in the death of 46-year-old Dena E. Seymour, whose body was found by police about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at her home on North Alleghany Road near Grayslake.
Amin was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a rooftop bar on the 600 block of North State Street, authorities said.
Seymour's cause of death was not available late Wednesday afternoon from the Lake County coroner's office, but Lake County Sheriff's Det. Christopher Covelli said ballistic tests would be conducted on the gun recovered at the scene of Amin's death to determine if it was the same weapon used to kill Seymour. A preliminary investigation showed Seymour had been shot more than once.
Covelli said the case remains open and is being investigated as a homicide. Amin and Seymour were dating, according to the sheriff's office. Amin's most recent address was in Crystal Lake.
Covelli on Tuesday said police were called by someone who was at the Seymour's house for a morning appointment, but he declined to elaborate.
