Palatine stays perfect in MSL West

Palatine's girls volleyball team drew to within one match of an undefeated first half of Mid-Suburban West play when it defeated host Conant 25-20, 25-11 on Monday night in Hoffman Estates.

Back from an ankle injury suffered in the Pirates' first match of Saturday's Sandy Pifer Invite at Prospect, junior outside hitter Claire Chaplinsky put down 6 kills as did senior teammate and middle blocker Heather Holz. Chaplinsky also had 4 digs while Holz served 6 aces.

Haley Holz (4 kills) and Brooke Bauer (3 kills, 3 digs) were the next top attackers for the Pirates (14-7), who improved to 4-0 in the West, 1 match ahead of Schaumburg and Barrington. The Pirates visit Barrington (6-12, 3-1) today.

Palatine junior setter Sydney Christiansen handed out 18 assists while Alyssa Kronberg came up with 8 digs in the back row and served an ace. Teammate Alexis Serna collected 3 aces and 3 digs while Ally Foltman had 2 kills, 2 aces and 5 digs.

Conant (3-13, 1-3) received 2 kills apiece from Rachel Delanois, Ally Peacock and Lauren Perri. Delanois also had 2 blocks while Kristina Loznjakovic served 2 aces. Senior Ester Cho contributed 9 digs.

Lake Forest d. Barrington: The Scouts posted a nonconference 25-22, 10-25, 25-14 win over the host Fillies (6-12), who were led by Megan Talbot (6 kills), Gabby Morris (6 kills) and Edy Merkle (6 points, 2 aces).

Stevenson d. Buffalo Grove: Stevenson improved to 20-5 with the nonconference win over the visiting Bison (2-12).

Warren d St. Viator. Claire Lundtveit put down a team-high 8 kills for Warren in a 25-17, 15-25, 25-22 nonconference triumph over visiting St. Viator (15-11). Alyssa Forbes (11 kills), Audrey Nuelle (7) and Emily Hayes (6) led the Lions' attack which was set by Michaela Mueller (96-of-98 for 26 assists).
