Roof fire at West Dundee strip mall causes $15,000 in damage

Nobody was injured in a Saturday night fire that damaged the roof of a strip mall along Route 31 in West Dundee, officials said Sunday.

West Dundee firefighters were called shortly after 10:15 p.m. to a report of a fire on the roof above Peoplelink Staffing, 723 S. Eight St., officials said. The building, which does not have a sprinkler system, was not occupied at the time.

Fire crews from Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin and Rutland-Dundee also responded to the fire, which was put out within 30 minutes, authorities said.

The fire, believed to be caused accidentally, resulted in about $15,000 in damage, fire officials said. West Dundee fire officials, along with officials from other fire departments, are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
