Upgraded Des Plaines park hosts party Saturday

A grand reopening celebration of Eaton Field Park on the southeast side of Des Plaines is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The upgraded park, at 2979 S. Craig Drive, has new playgrounds for ages 2-5 and ages 5-12, a walking path, basketball courts, soccer goals, benches, bicycle racks, permanent port-o-lets and extensive landscaping. A face-to-face parent-child "expression" swing is the first of its kind to be installed in Des Plaines, park district officials say. The park board in March approved the $211,000 park renovation project, which has been partially funded by an $80,000 federal Housing and Urban Development grant. The grand reopening event includes crafts and games.
