Farm Frolic pays tributes to St. Charles' roots

Primrose Farm in St. Charles hosted its annual Farm Frolic on Sunday to help celebrate fall, farm life and educate visitors at the historic dairy farm.

Visitors to the farm were able to try their hand at cow milking, pumpkin painting, milk bottle bowling, corn shelling and the ever popular corn cannons - firing corn at targets set up in a cornfield.

Sparkles entertainment was on hand to demonstrate juggling, plate twirling and perform some unique face-painting for children.

Laura Johns, manager for farm programs and interpretive services, estimated that more than 1,000 people will attend the frolic in St. Charles this year.

"It is really great for kids in particular," she said. "It gets them outdoors in the fall and into an atmosphere that is different from what they're really used to."

Kids also had a chance to interact with barnyard animals such as sheep, dairy cows, horses and chickens in a petting zoo, and take pony rides.

Also on display were antique tractors, fire trucks from the Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue District, and police cars from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
