Hoffman Estates fire, police face off for bragging rights

The Hoffman Estates Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association sponsored the third annual Shootz & Ladderz Softball Fundraiser - pitting police versus fire - on Saturday at Cannon Crossings park, 1675 Nicholson Drive.

Hoffman Estates firefighters won the game the first two years, giving them bragging rights and a trophy. Before the game started, there was speculation as to whether this year would be any different.

"The past two years, the fire department has eked out wins over the police department for the take-home trophy," said Leigh Bartkowiak, president of the Hoffman Estates Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. "This year I think the police department is really going to be gunning to take that trophy home."

The event and raffles help buy equipment for the Citizen Fire Academy - a public education program offered through the village allowing residents a hands-on look at what the fire department does daily.
