Woodland Dist. 50 school gets Day of Service spruce-up

Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 invited students staff, parents and community members to Saturday's Green Apple Day of Service at Woodland Primary School on Gages Lake Road. The goal was to make the school a healthier, more sustainable learning environment.

The event included the painting of a "Growing Up Green" mural in the school, painting a trike track on the playground, cleaning up the butterfly garden and a scavenger hunt on the walking trail volunteers cleared last year.

The service project is in its third year and is an initiative from the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council.
