'Eleanor Roosevelt' to share stories at Barrington tea

The Signal Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will host its annual English High Tea & Drama fundraiser at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Garlands of Barrington, 1000 Garlands Lane, Barrington.

This highly anticipated event is open to the public and will feature a high tea complete with finger sandwiches, scones, lemon curd, Devon cream, chocolates and sweets, followed by a dramatic performance by award winning actress and scholar Leslie Goddard.

Goddard will be portraying "Eleanor Roosevelt," who will share stories of her childhood, her courtship and marriage to Franklin D. Roosevelt, her volunteer work during World War I, FDR's bout with polio, the White House years, World War II and FDR's death. Drawn from Eleanor's own writings, this program is set in 1945, as Eleanor grapples with the question of whether or not to accept an invitation to serve on the American delegation to the new United Nations.

Tickets are $40 and must be purchased by Tuesday, Oct. 6. Please call Carol Steelman at (847) 304-1283 to make your reservation. Tables of 10 will receive reserved seating. Tickets are limited, so please make your reservations early. Several themed baskets will be available for viewing at 11a, m.

Proceeds from the tea will benefit Signal Hill Chapter programs including local youth awards and conservation projects, service for veterans and active troops and commemorative events. For information about the Signal Hill Chapter, visit www.ildar.org/chapters/signalhill/Welcome.html
