Rutgers faculty: Football coach's suspension insufficient

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A Rutgers University faculty group is asking the school to "act forcefully" to address concerns with the football program amid the suspension of the coach and in light of criminal charges brought against several players who've been kicked off the team.

The New Brunswick Faculty Council says Friday the program's standards of ethical behavior and academic performance seem to have deteriorated under coach Kyle Flood. The council says Flood's suspension from three games and a $50,000 fine weren't grave enough consequences for his actions.

Flood was disciplined after an internal investigation found he contacted a faculty member over a player's grade. Flood has accepted responsibility but defended looking out for the academic interest of players. The player, Nadir Barnwell, has since been dismissed to face unrelated criminal charges.
